POEM 98: SINKING BOAT
The shore was beautiful
And the ocean called with a voice beautiful
We couldn't resist.
Laughter followed our flying limbs
as we raced hand in hand like heart in heart
to the boat we formed with words
Words we spoke to us
Us that once was naught.
No chart for our course
Seamen skills, we have none
Yet nothing felt wrong
How can we be wrong
When the wind and sea
And the imaginary lighthouse we see
Blinded our hearts like eyes in love
Are masked from flaws and faults?
'Row! Row! Row your boat'
We sang and sailed down the sea
Merrily, merrily, merrily
even at the middle of the sea.
Billows rose and waves rocked
But it was music to our hearts.
We laid on us
We rise and fall
and made love to the sea.
A mile away from our lighthouse
I don't know how
But we began to sink.
This sail was smooth
The boat stays afloat
until familiarity drilled holes
in the hearts of I and you.
