POEM 333: For Elizabeth

this minstrel of mine, heart-singer,
tickling my heart with melodies fair

this minstrel of mine, eye-singer,
bursting the ducts that habour my tears,

this minstrel of mine, ear-singer,
tap-tapping the talking drum in my ears

this minstrel of mine, sweet-singer,
not one note does sweetness not bear

this minstrel of mine, droll-singer,
what beautiful voice, I drool as I stare

this minstrel of mine, thrill-singer,
of cherubic voices, like heaven on earth

this minstrel of mine, wit-singer,
make songs feel like laughter, lest bored, I faint

this minstrel of mine, echo-singer,
long after she's done, it echoes again

this minstrel of mine, love-singer,
passion-singer,
mystic-singer,
life-singer,
this list would be endless, if i do not pause

happy birthday, dear minstrel
more life, more music,

with love,
daddy
