POEM 160: ONLY IF YOU TRY

We can fly the sky and float the sea.
We can hang our shoulders high
step on lion tails and walk free
but when a nerve snaps
we alight in puddles with teary eyes.

The world is full of weeping eyes
eyes that once wore sparkles.
Good can be good
Good be bad
A noon is dark,
a star is gone,
A rose is dead,
a bird is mute;
and love that made sounds magical
is silent like a broken flute.

The world is full of weeping eyes
but do not weep forever, man!
You can fly the sky
You can float the sea
Raise your shoulders high
Step on a lion's tail
Walk free or die, you can never tell.
Don't sit long to cry, life's just a tale.
