POEM 56: UNREQUITED LOVE

Nothing takes the taste
out of peanut butter
like unrequited love.
She never left my mind
I never crossed hers.
I still sing a song
for the bridge that carried our love
over a sea of troubled waters;
waters that drowned me moments later
later on she came fishing
fishing for a man to call her own.
Her own drowned moments ago.
Nothing takes the taste
out of peanut butter
like unrequited love.
